I never noticed such a (strange) banner using a Gentoo mirror while syncing portage tree...

Is 154.73.32.2 / 2c0f:f720::2 an official gentoo mirror?

I haven't found any list where I can lookup all Gentoo mirrors...

Code:

>>> Syncing repository 'gentoo' into '/usr/portage'...
 * Using keys from /usr/share/openpgp-keys/gentoo-release.asc
 * Refreshing keys via WKD ...                                                                                                                                                  [ ok ]
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://[2c0f:f720::2]/gentoo-portage...

We are adding more mirrors from a subset of community mirrors where we know the admins well because of bug 949230. The mirror has been on https://www.gentoo.org/support/rsync-mirrors/ for a while.

Hi Duncan,

"Owner" of the specific mirror in question here (I'm the sysadmin). There is also one on 154.73.32.1 / 2c0f:f20::1.

Interexcel World Connection (this specific host will be split off to Ultimate Linux Solutions end of the month) sponsors these, so our standard banner shows here.

I'm happy to (partially) adjust the banner if that will help make things less scary/strange for people? It should be noted that the final results are cryptographically protected anyway, so there is no danger to users even if rsync does go via an "untrusted" mirror (unless they also happen to have access to the signing keys but then we REALLY have a problem). Employer requirement is that our company name must reflect there at least, beyond that I have a fair emount of freedom to do as I please.

Nice on that you're using IPv6 btw :).
