A quick Internet search on BooleanOptionalAction leads me to https://docs.python.org/3/library/argparse.html, where I see that BooleanOptionalAction is new in python:3.9. You are probably trying to use an outdated Python for this. The ebuild for merge-usr requires Python 3.10 or newer.

Unless you have made many other changes since your preceding post, it seems to me that trying to apply merged-usr now is just going to make a bad situation worse. Get up-to-date on a split-usr profile, then consider whether to switch to merged-usr.

zdavatz,

we welcome every new Gentoo user. You should have no problems with Gentoo if you already have previous knowledge of Funtoo. Unfortunately, even our best experts can't help you, as they don't have an intimate knowledge of Funtoo themselves. Updating a Gentoo installation that is many years old is already a challenge because, as you probably already know, Gentoo is a rolling distribution (I recommend updating at least once a month).

Long story short:

It only makes sense to change the distribution by reinstalling. Use your backup of your data - or create it (at least /home and /etc) - and reformat your PC and reinstall Gentoo. You had no systemd under Funtoo (but probably OpenRC) and a No-Multilib installation. I also have such a system and would like to recommend the following articles:

Example of "No-Multilib + Plasma" (the same is true for Gnome):

If you like a hardened system you will find there also a link to:

Moderator note: Since this thread can no longer be continued in a meaningful way, I have closed it and hope to read you again in a Gentoo specific thread.
