Whenever I try to open a PDF file with any LO app, it crashes with the following message:
Code:
General Error.
General input/output error.
Nothing appears in syslog, and this is what I get in stdout/stderr:
Code:
QGuiApplication::setDesktopFileName: the specified desktop file name ends with .desktop. For compatibility reasons, the .desktop suffix will be removed. Please specify a desktop file name without .desktop suffix
This plugin supports grabbing the mouse only for popup windows

I get this core dump, if that's helpful. I tried rebuilding app-office/libreoffice with custom-cflags disabled, but that didn't solve it either. Anyone know what's going on?

Have you ever been able to open a pdf with libreoffice? Do you wish to simply read the pdf or edit it? My understanding is that libreoffice is not supposed to be a pdf viewer or editor.

Yes. In the past, opening a PDF with LO would always work. It would open with LO Draw. I did just change a config file with dispatch-conf, specifically /etc/xdg/mimeapps.list. Maybe that has something to do with it? But those are just system defaults, not my user-specific settings, so I don't really know what's going on.

It has a pdfimport use flag though, which allows it to edit pdf files.
LibreOffice Draw module is not a great tool for the purpose and makes editing quite a painful process, but it _can_ do that.

Or at least it could, because it currently throws a "general input/output error" on my machine, whatever it means, and without any debug information. Weird.

Sorry, I did not know about the pdfimport flag. That's probably why it never worked for me. I will re-emerge with that and try it out. Thanks for the useful tip.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue.

Did you try the pdfimport USE flag, per above?

Talking about versions, I'm on ~amd64 and 2 most recent versions I merged fail to import pdf with that generic error I mentioned above.
2025-02-14T16:40:49 >>> app-office/libreoffice-24.2.7.2-r1
2025-02-23T16:47:29 >>> app-office/libreoffice-25.2.1.1
I don't know when it stopped working; I found xournal much more convenient for scribbling on other people's papers (though, unfortunately, much more limited in what it _can_ do).

dmpogo, what exact version do you have? The one that works?

sam_, I do have that USE flag enabled. My whole system is nuked right now though, trying to recover from that. I'll revisit this once I have a functioning computer.
