Just tried XFCE under Wayland to see how it's going.
Focus Follows Mouse doesn't work. Welp, back to Xorg.
Having used FFM for the last 30 years, I'm not ready to go without it.
[Administrator note: both a separate report and the first response suggested moving from Desktop Environments to Gentoo Chat. Moved. -Hu] |

Are you seeking advise on howto focus follow mouse? Or just let it know? if it is latter may be this thread should be move to char?
I think you have mix Wayland as protocol/library vs a Composer implementation.
unlike X Windows system, "Wayland" does not include one Window manager, in wayland eco system there are many composer implementation. a "composer" is kind of like X windows WM.
And focus follow mouse is a function of WM or composer. it is neither standard in WM nor composer.
I am not sure the XFCE you tested use which composer but I found this link that describe under Raspberry PI OS it is possible to configure the "labwc" can be configured do focus follow mouse.
BTW, Raspberry PI OS by default use XFCE as its desktop environment. |

Thanks for moving this to a more appropriate location. It is indeed just an observation.
After some poking around, I found that labwc has a <focus> section in it's config file so I got FFM working after all.
Now to figure out how to get Steam & co. to work with XWayland... |

Got XWayland working with Steam & games. The recent article at Phoronix benchmarking games under wayland vs xorg convinced me to try wayland. I'm getting from 4 to 24 fps more with wayland in War Thunder (3900X + 6700XT @ 2k) so I'm impressed now. |
