[SOLVED]2 monitors on dp can only get sound from one

I have hd audio drivers for both my nvidia card, and alc1220.

I want HDMI 2, but pavucontrol shows that one as unplugged and unavailable. I want sound from my gs2f7a, but I can't get sound out of it. I'm completely lost when it comes to sound in linux, and is has "just worked" in the past, but not this time. I'd be happy to provide any info/output that could help the more knowledgeable put me on the right track. Alsamixer only shows spdif when I F6 and select my nvidia hd audio, FWIW. The alc1220 has the full range of controls I would expect. Nothing is muted.

EDIT: What I actually wanted was sould from my decent desktop speakers. I just bypassed the HDMI shenanigans and plugged them into the motherboard. I guess I wanted to bang my head against the ALSA thing for a while, but sometimes it's better to go around the problem.
