Hi

I've been using ibus and ibus-anthy for years without a problem. I don't remember whether one of these packages has been updated lately (I do a world update once a week).

Today I noticed something strange, I pressed <ctrl>-<spacebar> to select Anthy and the try-icon did not change. I was not able to write in Japanese and after a one minute or so, my desktop got terribly slow. I opened an htop and the system had half of my swap full. The culprit: /usr/share/ibus-anthy/engine/main.py --ibus

I killed the process and restarted the whole ibus with ibus-daemon -xv on a terminal to see more verbose logs. I tried that many times, and every time I select Anthy, this process starts using so much RAM that in a couple of seconds my whole RAM is full and it starts swapping.

If I select other keyboard layouts with <ctrl>-<spacebar> (I have German and Spanish as well), then they work without a problem. So it seems that it's anthy's fault.

I haven't updated my default python, I still have

Code:

*/* PYTHON_TARGETS: -* python3_11 python3_12
*/* PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET: -* python3_11

in /etc/portage/package.use. I added app-i18n/ibus-anthy PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET: python3_12 -python3_11 to force ibus-anthy run with Python 3.12, I re-installed ibus-anthy but the behaviour hasn't changed.

I tried re-configuring my ibus, removed ibus-anthy and added it again. The results is always the same.

Can anybody confirm this behaviour? Any ideas what might be causing this problem? Any idea why I can debug this? As far as I can see, there are no log files for ibus-anthy.

Perhaps the same as this bug: https://github.com/ibus/ibus-anthy/issues/41

perhaps, I will create a bug report on the projects github. Or should I create a bug report on bugs.gentoo.org?

I wouldn't bother filing a downstream (Gentoo) bug as there's nothing we can do about it and it's known upstream. The only value of it would be to help other users who look for problems with ibus-anthy.

I probably wouldn't file a new upstream bug either given yours sounds a lot like that one, but you can if you think it's different.

bug 953874 just got filed, which means it must be a separate issue from that upstream bug I linked, and it only happens with ibus-anthy-1.5.17.

Ok, wow. Yesterday, before I posted the question, I checked on Gentoo's bugzilla whether the problem had been already reported but I could not find any single report of ibus-anthy.
