I have been experiencing a problem with gentoo 1.2 and 1.4, using vcron.
I wrote a script that backs up all of my partitions to hdb1 each night, with dump. However, cron refuses to run it. I have tried:
- An entry in /etc/crontab, followed by "crontab /etc/crontab" and restarting vcron.
- An entry in /etc/cron.d, and vcron restart.
- A script in /etc/cron.daily, and vcron restart.
The script never runs - I don't get any notification from cron by mail, and /etc/dumpdates is never updated. However, the script runs from the command line, and works perfectly from cron on my Red Hat systems.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
Thanks,
Milo. |

Of course.
I found that the reason I was not getting updates was a typo in /etc/mail/local-host-names that meant that cron was not sending me any mail. This doesn't explain the lack of updates to /etc/dumpdates, though. However, It actually ran last night, and this will hopefully keep up with any luck.
Thanks,
Milo. |
