Qualcuno sa se ci sono delle novita' rispetto al possibile ri-cambio di licenza di xfree? Io ero rimasto a Stallman che voleva parlare con gli sviluppatori, poi non ho piu' sentito niente. Il mio problema e' che sul portatile (toshiba 4600) la vers. 4.3 ha un po' di problemi a livello driver (tipo che la riproduzione di un filmato si vede solo 1 volta, dopo devo killare X)

Allora è tutto a posto con la licenza? Possiamo usarlo senza rimorsi di coscienza?? 
"The XFree86 Project, Inc is announcing that it has made a change to its license effective with the Third Release Candidate for the 4.4.0 series. This licence, like our previous, is fully free, (how do we know this? no less than the world authority on free software, RMS, has said so) and it's the hope of the XFree86 Project to no longer allow non-free licences into our tree so we can become a fully free-software compliant X product." |

Effettivamente sembra che i problemi maggiori siano rientrati. Anche se, data la bontà del mio inglese legalese, preferisco aspettare altri commenti

Ho letto recentemente un articolo su questo fatto, che spiega perche RMS si e' incazzato talmente tanto. Pero a parte la sua "incazzatura" non credo che ci sia un motivo serio. La licenza praticamente non e' cambiata di una virgola per l'utente finale. Nel senso che possiamo redistribuirla, come dire e' un software "libero"

Anyone who is a regular of this site knows we've been crtical of Slashdot reporting, but this time we can only say, Incredible! Bravo! Right on!
Slashdot is reporting, and we have personally tested this out so we know that's it's true, that a MSN search for XFree86 returns a porn site. We also know that it used to work.
In the meantime, every distro out is boycotting X-FREE-86. Talk to us at Forum at XFree86 dot org about how you're mad as ever about these turn of events and of course don't forget to tell Slashdot dot org or those distros, that "I want my XFree86 4.4., and I want it Now !!"
In any event, you can always get XFree86 right here, right from the source and those other search engines work just like they always did.
