AMD64 2004.0 release

This is just an announcement for everyone that may have seen the
/. posting about 2004.0 release. There was a minor glitch on getting
binaries to the mirrors, no arch has a release in the releases folder,
infact, there are no amd64 stages or livecds up on the mirrors at all
right now (experimental got cleared as well).

For you all that are too anxious to get the official release, you may
download it from:
http://dev.gentoo.org/~brad_mssw/2004.0/

Please also review http://amd64.gentoo.org for errata reguarding
release.

If I do something like emerge -uD world, it should bring my system current, am I correct in that assumption?

yes. If you installed more than a month ago, you might want
to make sure your /etc/make.profile symlink is set to the 2004.0
release instead of 1.4. Read amd64.gentoo.org if you're not
sure how to do that.

I d/l and burned the 2004.0 ISOs for AMD64 on Friday night from mirror.ac.uk, thanks. Although I've had to abandon my install with a few problems:

Tried stage 1 with bootstrap-2.6.sh. It wants a more up-to-date portage tree, so I emerge portage and it does its thing for a while until the compile crashes out (ncurses?). bootstrap.sh is much more successful until emerge system, at which point it too barfs out.

I'll get back to it sometime.

Cool, no problem then, I bought my amd64 on Feb 6, and used the iso from I believe the 4th.

And it's a tad faster than my Athlon 1Ghz I might add..

After about 100 tries i found a serer with the AMD64 livecd in the right place under releases. I got 2 CDs now. Don't tell me they are the wrong ones. :-(

actually, they _are_ the wrong ones
the right ones are named
install-amd64-universal-2004.0.iso
and
packages-amd64-2004.0.iso

along with
install-amd64-minimal-2004.0.iso

The previous ones are missing docs, /etc/motd, did
not generate a random password on start, and had a different
bootsplash....

As far as not being listed as a dev, dunno, guess I need to figure
out who does that.

k i will download them again tomorrow. actually i wanted to buy mir athlon64 hardware today, but as i arrived at the shop it was fucking sold out... So after all this day was not a day of success in terms of myself getting 64bit :-)

I even downloaded the wrong isos. Anyway my hardware will arrive, if i am lucky on wendnesday. So enough time to download.

I normally use the cflags which are pre-set. Does it make sense for me to compile all by myself, except for the good feeling?

Or are the grp packages the same as i would get if i follow the install documentation?
