Hey ppl..
I'm thinking about bying a ATI card for my workstation, i'm planning a major upgrade to:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-K8N (nForce3 chipsset)
CPU: Athlon 64 3200+
HD: Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB 7200rpm
RAM: 1GB DDR PC3200 400 MHz 5 ns
Graphic card: AIT Radeon 9200 128MB
But i can't find any specific details on how good linux (kernel/xfree) supports the Radeon 9200 chipsset, ATI writes that thay supports the 9000 and 9700 Radeon cards, should i buy a 9700 insted or what about the 9800 card ??
As you can see i'm on a limited budget, so please don't suggest Mylex controllers and such, that will only make we feel bad
If anyone could suggest another hardware setup then the one here please let me know, i'm only planning running Gentoo on this box, but i want too be sure before i indvest the money..
Any comments would be appriciated..

That information is out of date now. ATI have their own closed source driver which supports the R8500, and everything from the R9000 up to the R9800's, including the 9200. The xfree "radeon" driver also supports the 9200, according to the manpage, so you'd have a choice of drivers if you went for that card _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra
