Hahaha, no.
If there is any cheat protection whatsoever, it will involve checking to make sure you have the exact same datafiles across all clients.
Legends is basically there to pretend to be Tribes (1). It infact uses the Tribes 2 engine, so, whilst it is either the same, or similar network code, it would not be feasable for it to connect to T1/2 servers. |

If you're really desperate to get your Tribes2 fix in linux I would have to suggest Wine as a method for running it, it may look a little coarser than it should be but the OpenGL acceleration seems to work a treat.
Of course this means you must already have installed it in windows but for those who have the windows version this seems to be the only legal way to run Tribes2 in Linux without forking out more money for the true Linux version. |

Not sure if it's been said, but Tribes 2 works under Wine. I just played it 2 minutes ago Sound doesn't work for me yet, but I think that just may be because I'm not using Alsa, *shrugs*. All I did was emerge wine, pop in my tribes cd, mount it, run setup, wait, start SierraUp.exe, update it a couple of times(SierraUp needs like 2+ updates) and always try the Sierra mirror first, finally Tribes should eventually come up and play like normal. You will need a working 3d accelerater, BTW. At one point I did get an error from SierraUp, but that worked it self out in time... .
And yes, Tribes 2 is a good game. |

Hey, when I try to update tribes2 (client) to the newest version I get some strange md5sum error.
Code: |
bash-2.05b# ./tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run
Verifying archive integrity...tail: cannot open `+6' for reading: No such file or directory
Error in check sums 3079959491 180257248
|
Now, at 1st I thought it was an md5sum error and it was bad. So I downloaded the .md5 file and I got this:
Code: |
bash-2.05b# md5sum -c tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run.md5
tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run: OK
|
So the md5sum is correct.
Is there a way to fix this at all? or is there a way to force it to run? Or is there a way to unzip everything in the .run file?
I don't want to download this file for a 9th time on a 9th mirror. Please help! _________________ Ph33R mY l337 H|_|R|) 0F G|\||_|Z!! |

The patch file runs, but with this error:
Code: | root@chii files # sh tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run
Verifying archive integrity...OK
Uncompressing Tribes 2 25034 Update................................................................................................................................
./update.sh: line 60: 6340 Segmentation fault loki_patch --verify patch.dat
The program returned an error code (1)
root@chii files #
|
Code: | root@chii files # _POSIX2_VERSION=199209 ./tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run
bash: ./tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied |
Code: | root@chii files # _POSIX2_VERSION=199209 sh tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run
Verifying archive integrity...OK
Uncompressing Tribes 2 25034 Update................................................................................................................................
./update.sh: line 60: 6301 Segmentation fault loki_patch --verify patch.dat
The program returned an error code (1)
|
Any other idea's? Running tribes2 --update fails, running the update program will work, and it will dl the patches, but it won't apply them. |

Ok, I applied the patch, and now I have no sound. All of the sound related stuff is just gone from the options.
Damn, I was so close
edit: nevermind, you just need to delete your old ~/.loki directory and let the patched version create a new one.
Whee~~ |

I've just updated Tribes2 Linux to 25034. Now sound does not function in the game, and I cannot select a sound provider in the in-game menu. I have removed my ~/.loki directory, to no effect. Manually patching had a few un-expected side-effects, described at the end of this post. Here are a few relevant specs:
OS: Gentoo Linux
Sound: Alsa-Driver-1.0.4 (Sound Blaster Audigy 1)
Kernel: 2.6.3-ck1
Steps Taken to Install:
I unpacked the full patch:
Code: | _POSIX2_VERSION=199209 sh tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run --keep |
Commented the following lines in update.sh to stop the CRC verification:
Code: |
# Verify that the loki_patch version is okay
#if loki_patch --verify patch.dat; then
# :
#else
# exit 1
#fi
|
I then ran update.sh:
Patching in this manner left several files ending with the extension '.new' For example:
After patching I had:
Code: |
Tribes2/GameData/DRI-Voodoo5.cs
Tribes2/GameData/DRI-Voodoo5.cs.new
Tribes2/GameData/base/skins.vl2
Tribes2/GameData/base/skins.vl2.new
|
among others. I replaced each existing file with its '.new' counterpart, and Tribes 2 started in "mute" mode.

Just look for a file called ClientPrefs.cs, which is located in /home/username/.loki/tribes2/base/prefs folder. Delete the lines containing Audio. Then restart Tribes 2 |

Deleting the lines containing Audio doesn't help.
Would you post your Audio sections? |

I've removed the lines containing "Audio" from the ClientPrefs.cs, to no effect. The in-game "3D Provider" and "Speakers" boxes are still empty. The following is what Tribes2 re-writes into the configuration:
Code: |
$pref::Audio::activeDriver = "default";
$pref::Audio::captureGainScale = "1";
$pref::Audio::channels = 2;
$pref::Audio::decodingMask = 8;
$pref::Audio::drivers = "OpenAL";
$pref::Audio::effectsVolume = "1";
$pref::Audio::enableVoiceCapture = "1";
$pref::Audio::encodingLevel = 3;
$pref::Audio::environmentEnabled = "0";
$pref::Audio::forceMaxDistanceUpdate = 0;
$pref::Audio::frequency = 22050;
$pref::Audio::guiVolume = "0.8";
$pref::Audio::masterVolume = "0.8";
$pref::Audio::musicEnabled = "1";
$pref::Audio::musicVolume = "0.8";
$pref::Audio::radioVolume = "0.8";
$pref::Audio::sampleBits = 16;
$pref::Audio::voiceChannels = 1;
$pref::Audio::voiceVolume = "1";
|
I installed openal-20040303 from Portage. It didn't help Tribes 2. |

Do you have a file called libopenal.so.0 in your /tribes2 directory? |

not sure if anyone knows this, but you can now download the windows copies of tribes 2 from fileshack and fileplanet. if you do it through fileplanet they give you a cd key (not too sure about fileshack). then you can get the cd from bit-torrent or emule. |

Zannox: I do not have libopenal.so.0 in my /tribes2 directory. If you do, is it a file, or a symlink?
wcbaker: Thanks for the information. :->
EDIT: Zannox: I symlinked libopenal.so.0.0.7 to libopenal.so.0 in my /tribes2 directory. I have sound now. Thank you for the tip, and the patience along the way. |

Don't use any filters, go to filters and select ALL Servers. I've noticed it doing that with one of my filters here lately. |
