smc2802w v2 wlan adapter not supported

after reading several posts about wlan cards i decided to buy the very good supported smc card 2802w. this card is supposed to run without problems with the prism54.org driver.

after spending several hours to try to get it working i stumbled over a post in the forums:

smc decided to change some essentials on the card and the driver is no longer working under my "revision".

so for everybody who thinks about buying a smc 2802w card, good luck.
after modprobing the prism driver you'll see someting like
"prism54 driver detected card model: SMC2802W V2"

the v2 is a sign of evil .. so ward it off, bring the card back and buy a different one.

aargh. frustrated.

Do you have any recommendations for a 54mbps PCI-card without such traps? Should be a good one for building an access-point.

these two projects support many wlan cards. i finally went for a level one wnc-0300. no worries.
the guys in #prism54 on irc.freenode.net are helpfull and sure know more than i do.
