Hello!
I've been searching the internet for some time, but -call me stupid- could not find out at what fsb speed the AMD Athlon 1200A runs.
Neither found documentation at amd.com nor by googling.
If anybody knows the answer to my problems please let me know...

It sounds like you either have a AMD Duron or a AMD Athlon XP proc. AMD did sell duron core procs under the name Athlon (-XP) for a little while. Check the output of:
Code:
# cat /proc/cpuinfo

this will tell you what cpu you actualy have. FSB speeds for the Duron are only 200mhz(afaik). Athlon XP 1600+ will have a FSB of 200 or 266mhz. the best way to check this it to look in the bios, or read the speed off the top of the cpu.

Athlon A's and B's are running with FSB 100MHz (12x100), the C's are running with FSB 133MHz (9x133).

wow, so do these procs predate the Athlon XP series?

Sorry for answering so late, I was on a holiday for a week...

Anyway that problem does not exist anymore, because I blew the cpu. I got it for free from a friend, and as my old machine was a PII-350 I bought myself a motherboard and some ram. But as I experienced later, I could only run that mboard+ram combination with 266 mhz.
So I tried to find out whether I could use the cpu, didn't find anything and tried 266 mhz. Well, the cpu ran for at least 5 seconds, then nevermore...
Now I've got an athlon xp 2500+, and I am well satisfied...sometimes people have to force me to spend money on hardware!

But thanks for the info!
