I don't want arts installed, it causes nothing but problems for me, and I don't have any need for it. However, almost all of the kde programs I've compiled have failed unless I edit the ebuild and add the --without-arts configure option.
My question is.. Since there is an arts USE flag, why not include support in the kde ebuilds for not using arts? It's as simple as
use arts || myconf="${myconf} --without-arts"
And the emerge is successful. Just a suggestion, should I file a bug report? |

I can't see any problem here.
Code: | USE="-arts" emerge kde |
if you don't want to use arts with kde - but I doubt you can use kde at all without arts. _________________ Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. |

retribute, my point is that K3B and many kde apps don't support the ARTS USE flag. When indeed they should. Yeah, kde does work without arts by the way, and thats the way I like it. |

crimson, i'm in the same boat. i did the exact same thing.
...but is it just the kdelibs that needs the --without-arts flag because, it is the only one that fails without having arts compiled. i used `emerge --nodeps kdelibs kdebase etc...`, and it failed while configuring, but all the others worked |

note that completely disabling arts from kcontrol actually works in kde 3.2.1. _________________ what up |
