When I was using Firebird I could start multiple instances of it but if I try to do that with Firefox I always get the Profile Manager popping up wanting me to choose another profile. Is there an easy way to revert to the behavior I had in Firebird?
BTW, I now I could just use the 'New Window' option under 'File' but I've found that when I'm using the virtual desktops it's really handy just to start another instance of Firefox. |

basically edit /usr/bin/firefox
within the first few lines you will see Code: | newtype=${MOZILLA_NEWTYPE:-"tab"} | change "tab" to "window"
I edited my firefox and it works great, but I also created a firefox-tab to open new tabs. And I am probably going to switch that so that the default firefox will open a new tab, but then I can create shortcuts from the menu and keyboard to the firefox-window for a new window. _________________ Join the adopt an unanswered post initiative today |

Thanks for your reply but after editing my /usr/bin/firefox file I still can't open a second instance of Firefox without the Profile Manager popping up wanting me to choose another profile. I know there's a way to do this... |

Well I opened Firefox ran the killall command and the Firefox window closed. I then ran the killall command again, opened up Firefox, and then tried to open up a second instance but I still get the Profile Window.
I hate to do this but I forgot to menetion I'm actually using the CVS version of Firefox becasue of problems I had with the regular Firefox. The problem I had was that after opening one window I couldn't get another window to open(nothing, not even the profile manager), after closing Firefox and attempting to open again I still got nothing. Only after killiing all of the Firefox processes was I able to open Firefox again. |
