I just updated my kernel from 2.6.3-gentoo-rc1 to 2.6.4-gentoo.

Everything else seems to be working just dandy, but now my USB printer/scanner, a HP PSC1210 won't print anymore (it uses the hpijs and hpoj packages).

CUPS sees the printer just fine, but when I try to print anything, the printer will just keep taking in sheets of paper and spitting them out without printing anything to them.

I will have to cancel the print job and reboot the printer for it to calm down :)

Reverting back to 2.6.3 makes everything work fine again.

Has anyone else discovered similar problems with 2.6.4(-gentoo), and if you have, what is your printer type?

Are the config files the same for both kernels?

I haven't had any issues, but I'm not using a USB printer either. Maybe there are some gentoo patches that fix something, I dunno.

There is no gentoo-dev-sources for 2.6.4 yet.

The configs are the same, I ran 'make oldconfig'.

There are gentoo-dev sources for 2.6.4, but they are still unstable:

Code:
lechuck mokautto # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p gentoo-dev-sources

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.4

Hey! Are you a monkey island fan, too?

I guess my portage tree is a day out of sync :(

Do you see any errors in the dmesg logs?

No errors in the log, everything *seems* to be working fine, hpoj sees the printer, CUPS sees the printer, scanning works, but apparently the data that is sent to the printer is not correct.

(Yes, I am a monkey island fan - this one is 'lechuck', my server is 'guybrush', my other destop is 'stan' and my laptop is 'elaine' :) )

I tried vanilla kernels 2.6.4 and 2.6.5-rc1 and 2.6.4-gentoo-r1 and they all have the same problem. Scanning works just fine.

There seems to be some problem with the usblp-module in kernels >=2.6.4.

Could someone with a USB printer please try a 2.6.4 kernel, so we could find out whether this is a HP specific problem or does this happen with other USB printers too?

I used 2.4.something before, printing to my USB connected HP Deskjeet 3650 worked just fine. With 2.6.4-gentoo is doens't work anymore. I get 'media tray empty' errors with every print job. *very* annoying. Maybe I'll ahve to downgrade to 2.6.3.

Hmm... 've got the same problem with my hp deskjet 5150 I think:

Not printing at all/'media tray empty' after one print job - while using 2.6.5-love-*few_releases* earlier and 2.6.4 (downgraded!) now.

'll downgrade to dev-2.6.3 with old .config and and post here my results.

I use love-sources-2.6.3-r6 and I also get the dreaded "Media Tray empty" message with my Samsung ML-1450 USB printer causing my printer to do nothing for about 5 minutes and the printing 2 or 3 lines saying, that it ran out of printing data...

I'd be very very happy if someone could post a definitve solution to that matter..
