so this is my setup, very self explanatory:

the blue, green an yellow machines can ping each other including the red machine, but the red machine cannot ping the other machines, it can only ping the SMC router...

whe i run ifconfig on my red machine i get:
Code:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:80:C8:DF:C0:F8
          inet addr:24.101.133.9  Bcast:24.101.135.255  Mask:255.255.248.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:4012 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:3651 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:2789156 (2.6 Mb)  TX bytes:541377 (528.6 Kb)
          Interrupt:10 Base address:0xff80

eth1      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:01:02:6B:02:21
          inet addr:192.168.1.1  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:3923 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:4428 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:572203 (558.7 Kb)  TX bytes:2825909 (2.6 Mb)
          Interrupt:9 Base address:0xfc80

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

eth0 shares its connected to the to eth1.

All the machines can surf the web, but thr red machine cannot ping the other machines....is there any solution to this problem?

You may need to disable either NAT or packet filtering in your SMC router in order to allow the red box to access the other boxes.

if the SMC is one of the various cheap NAT routers (afaik it is) then you can't!
If at all it might be possible to ping one box behind it. Therefore you'd have to configure a forwarding for everything from outside (the segment 'red' is in) to be forwarded to e.g. 'green'.
Depends on whether the SMC can forward ICMP at all or handles this only by itself...

Is the router fitted with a firewall function or is this part of the red machine's function........? A disabling the function on the router (if it is there) should allow the ping - then reenable it !!!
