how can i set up something so that when i do lock screen, instead of doing some stupid screensaver the screen goes blank. by blank i mean off. my monitor is energystar compliant etc. |

I'd say, put Option "dpms" in the Monitor section of your XF86Config, and read in man xset about the paramters to control the standby time etc.

okay i got that, i just do Code: | xset dpms force off | how can i make it do that when i lock screen. this is xscreensaver |

Actually, I thought you wanted to get rid of xscreensaver, so you could just switch xscreensaver off now.
But if you use xscreensaver - hmmm, xscreensaver has a setup frontend where you can also enable dpms, it's in the advanced setting tab. So if you are running xscreensaver, you don't need to fiddle with xset, just use it's own possibilities.
If you are running Gnome or KDE, there should be a way to open the xscreensaver setup in the menu. Otherwise just try xscreensaver-demo and do the setup there. Set mode to Blank Screen Only, and enable power saving setting in the advanced tab.
