On two separate Gentoo machines, I've observed XFCE4 logging-out unexpectedly. On the laptop, it appears to be related to suspend/resume, and on the desktop machine, when switching-back the desktop from a console session (ctrl-alt-F1, alt-F7). It's not reliably reproducible. Is anyone else observing this? It might be related to X rather than XFCE, or lightdm, or systemd, all of which are running on both machines. Both machines are running ~86 and updated within the last two weeks. _________________ Michael Mounteney |

I only have xfce installed on openrc machines. I have not seen them spontaneously log out however. Also I'm not running ~x86, though I am running both 32 and 64-bit x86... Some are running lightdm, and others slim. My systemd boxes are running Gnome so I'm not sure what effects it has on xfce4 but there shouldn't be anything...
Same video driver on both machines by chance? _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD
What am I supposed watching? |

I'd start with the video driver. Try to see if dmesg says something relevant next time you are thrown out of X. When that happens, also check /var/log/Xorg*.log
I have no idea if systemd could be the culprit. But there's an easy way to chech it, and it is to disable xdm, stop it, use startx to launch your X session and see what happens. |
