Hi,

I successfully emerged gentoo 1.4 on an ARMADA 4200T. Unfortunatly there is something wrong with pcmcia-cs.

Kernel Bootmessages show mysterious things, e.g.

--------------------------------------
.
.
.
*starting portmap
* Starting pcmcia
cardmgr[925]: watching 2 sockets
cardmgr[925]: starting, version is 3.2.4
cardmgr[925]: socket 1: 3COM 3CCFE575CT/3CXFE575CT Fast Etherlink XL
cardmgr[925]: executing: 'modprobe cb_enabler'
cardmgr[925]: executing: 'modprobe 3c575_cb'
cardmgr[925]: executing: ' ./network start eth1' -> isn't it
cardmgr[925]: + ./network: line 28: /etc/init.d/net.eth1: No such file or directory -> strange?
cardmgr[925]: start cmd exited with status 127
-----------------------------------

Question: Why is ist possible to try to start eth2 though it has never been configured?

Entering

# ifconfig

only shows looback-device, entering

# ifconfig eth0

shows well configured eth0 according to /etc/conf.d/net, entering

# route

shows only localhost too, without configured default gateway from /etc/conf.d/net

Here's machines dmesg output:

I also tried following things:

# lsmod --> shows (among others) 3c59x and 3c575_cb both loaded, I only need 3c575_cb.

# rmmod 3c59x --> works out, ifconfig eth0 now doesn't show its configuration like before

# rmmod 3c575_cb --> unable to do that, resource busy

Note:
-I compiled gentoo with debian bootdisk environment because ARMADA 4200T doesn't come with CDROM, maybe it's a problem emerging pcmcia-cs in that environment???
-In /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4 I havn't defined any modules to load.

Does anyone can tell how to get this fixed?

t.

Copy /etc/init.d/net.eth0 to /etc/init.d/net.eth1
Add the following to depends in the eth1 file
Code:
need pcmcia

Alter /etc/conf.d/net to specify eth1 configuration (static ip/dhcp, etc)

Remove and insert the card and voila - should be fixed :)
