Help with HP Deskjet 842C and CUPS

I've got my HP Deskjet 842C printer working under Gentoo using CUPS. I'm using the driver that the CUPS web-based tool selected for my printer in the web interface (as it said nothing else would work properly). Printing in GIMP looks great. However, if I try to print from anything that converts to postscript first (OpenOffice, Mozilla, pretty much anything) the printer always prints a single, small gray line across the top of the page above what I was printing. It's really annoying. It also messes up the page margins; only the top half of OpenOffice footers will print properly.

Does anyone know how to get rid of that line?
