Well my problem is that my card (AWE 32 Plug and Play) won't play any music.
Whenever I start to play some sound file there is half a second of creepy noise and ... nothing.

I suppose that alsa configuration has worked.

My lsmod output:

BTW I do not have a /dev/sndstat. Does this matter?

I have set the mixer settings. Moreover there are no warnings or errors, just some scattering sound and nothing to follow (no music). Tried that with wav and mps files, same effect.

I remember to have similar sound problems on my FreeBSD box. Disabling ACPI helped me. How is that done under Gentoo?

Just help me out, the whole thing sucks.

I can't think of any things I have done wrong.

Thanks in advance.

In you grub.conf (I dunno about lilo), put acpi=off pci=noacpi after root=/dev/whatever
I had to do that to be able to access the internet.

Why does acpi support mess up sound and/or network for some people?

I have the same problem with kernel 2.6.3-gentoo-r1
To fix it I've done the following things:

emerge alsa-lib version 1.0.2 (DEFAULT 0.9.x)
emerge alsa-utils version 1.0.2 (DEFAULT 0.9.x)

Set in the bios PLUG AND PLAY OS : NO

I hope to be usefull
:D

Bye Camillo
