I have a printer which needs a firmware loaded. Today I tryed to update my system. I got a message that if I have such hardware I need kernel 3.7 or above. I have gentoo-sources kernel and the highest version available is 3.17.2 (masked). Now I have 3.16.5. I am confused how can I update to kernel version 3.7.
Regards

16 - 7 = 9. You do not "upgrade" to 3.7.
Is there an actual problem with your hardware? |

Thanks for your reply. From eselect news about udev and eudev are also masked. So I think I can safely update my system. After all I am just casual Gentoo user with default settings. |

Yeah you're fine; as Ant said, you're way past 3.7 already.
Just remember to run dispatch-conf (or etc-update) before you reboot. |
