Apparently reiserfs is faster for heaps of small files and xfs is faster for a smaller number of large files.
Personally I use reiserfs only coz thats what the x86 setup guide said and i havnt bothered to change :)

XFS is better for large files, Reiser is better for smaller files. That's not saying either can't do both.

As for the modules loading that you don't need, try looking in

Code:
 /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.x

Where x is the kernel version you're using (eg 2.4, 2.6)
If you have modules listed there that you aren't using, take them out or comment them out.

Good Luck,
Josh
