Hello.

Here's what I have, and what I want to do. I have cable service through a gentoo box with dynamic dns configured and setup properly for my domain. the gentoo box has a netgear mr814 wireless router with WEP enabled plugged into it, and there are a few windows xp laptops that use wireless through it. all the connections work as far as being able to use the net and whatnot from the laptops out, but the gentoo box can't see inside the router to the laptops. i want to run samba with the gentoo box as the wins server so that i can have a windows workgroup, and thus a network printer/shares/etc. has anyone achieved such a setup? i assume that my problem might be related to not being able to connect to the laptops because WEP is enabled, maybe?

Any ideas, thoughts, comments, workarounds?

Thanks a lot.

it sounds to me like your wireless router has a built in firewall feature that is messing things up. most likely it can be disabled, or you could physcially work around it by putting in another (wireless or wired depending on what the router supports) card into the linux box, and having a loop back into it, and setting that interface to only be used for samba traffic (so as to not be very insecure, though this is a risky setup)
