I think so to... pple with 9500 NP gets higher scores than that... But I'll have to test my performance with UT2K3, thats all that matters :)

I'm now running my own config, with AGP compiled into the kernel, that was the magic.

That's weird, it usually works well as modules :)

It could be something with the A7N8x, does your agp work with it compiled as a module?

I haven't tried it for a long time, but IIRC it did.

You know, my Geforce3 gives me 5.5k fps in gears and Geforce2-MX gives 2.5k. I am not sure about the quality of ATI drivers for Linux against nVidia ones, but Radeon 9500 PRO should give by far better results than 3 years old nVidia cards.

glxgears isn't really meant to be a benchmark, more of a way to test if 3D acceleration is working. nVidia cards seem to get much higher scores in general though. There's a thread somewhere full of people posting their glxgears scores, and ATI cards usually lag behind. Part of it is due to the drivers (the 3.2.x series are over 1000fps slower for me than the older 2.9 series), but I don't really care much. Q3 and RTCW both run nice and fast, and I can play UT2K3 @ 1280x1024 with all details maxed and still get 40 - 100 fps. ATI do still have work to do performance-wise with these drivers though.

Yeah! Common sense says they should :)

Well I'm glad to have OpenGL working! Now I'll just have to sort out that little trouble with displaying video on the TV...

Ah, so I won't compare nvidia and ati drivers on this test (because I think of buying an ATI card in the future) if they have better linux performance in other 3D areas. Just checked my matrox G400 (dri/drm enabled), just above 400fps, that's quite a good result for no 3d acceleration.

It's more than I had with software Mesa :)

I think all matrox stuff is software, maybe a bit accelerated on the 3d part, but really matrox Gxxx cards are not 3d accelerated. So CPU, chipset and memory play the major role in benchmarks. I really should have mentioned my hardware (for this particlular workstation, I have better ones 8) ), 400fps is on P3 800Mhz, on VIA chipset (not sure about the version VT82C693A/694x), AGP speed x2 :)

250fps is on Athlon XP 2400+, 512mb DDR RAM @ 400Mhz on Nforce2, AGP speed 4x :) Could be the ATi drivers though... I get the feeling that ATi doesn't care very much about the linux community :(
Hope they'll release the drivers OpenSource soon... That would be great!
