|
|
Ok, i'm trying to install gentoo on a k6 system. After untaring the stage 3 tarball, it has turned into an uphill battle which I am losing.
After I got the system ready, chrooted in, and did an emerge sync, I attempted to update a few packages ( including gcc ). I discovered that the system pretty much dies randomly whenever I try to compile anything more complex then hello world.
I would provide an explicit error message, but it really does die randomly; 3 attempts can produce 3 different errors, in three different files. Though one error that I have seen morethen once when trying to emerge ncurses is:
Code: | ../ncurses/base/lib_slk.c:70: internal error: Segmentation fault |
My current cpu flags are
My use flags are pretty much empty
If there is anymore information about the system that I should add just let me know.
If anybody has any ideas on what the problem is I would greatly appreciate it. _________________ --

Most common causes (if the failures are truly random) are bad memory or over-heating.
I think the bootable gentoo CD has memtest on it for thouroughly testing your system memory. Boot from the CD and hit F2 or F3 - on of them shows you how to boot into memtest (I think!).
As for overheating - just crack open the case, make sure all fans are running OK, then recompile with the case off.
