I'm running Gentoo Prefix on OS X (Macbook) and thought I'd try updating since it's been a year. In the past, this has been incredibly painful and taken days. But now it appears I can't even run emerge --sync:
Code: | $ emerge --sync
>>> Synchronization of repository 'gentoo_prefix' located in '/Volumes/Backup/Gentoo/usr/portage'...
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://8.5.1.31/gentoo-portage-prefix...
>>> Checking server timestamp ...
timed out
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(676) [Receiver=3.0.9]
>>> Retrying...
!!! Exhausted addresses for rsync.prefix.freens.org |
I found another post from about a year ago in this same forum that recommends using http://prefix.gentooexperimental.org/:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-987434.html
Which I assumed should go into make.conf. But I get a similar error:
Code: | $ emerge --sync
>>> Synchronization of repository 'gentoo_prefix' located in '/Volumes/Backup/Gentoo/usr/portage'...
>>> Starting rsync with rsync://145.120.15.174/gentoo-portage...
>>> Checking server timestamp ...
rsync: failed to connect to 145.120.15.174 (145.120.15.174): Network is unreachable (51)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(122) [Receiver=3.0.9]
>>> Retrying...
!!! Exhausted addresses for prefix.gentooexperimental.org |
Is Gentoo Prefix still supported? |

Eh? No, it's not (that's on yosemite.)
#gentoo-prefix on IRC chat.freenode.net is still an active channel.
Every prefix installation tends to be a unique circumstance, even more so than the average Gentoo install; so it tends to require customisation, and toolchain difficulties are much more common than when simply building from a stage3, because there is a host OS involved.
Still, they're a strong and friendly team, so get involved if you want to make it better.
edit: oops I see you're on the other thread already, unixj. |
