|

i tried to compile the gentoo-test-sources kernel and got an unresolved symbols error regarding the ntfs module when doing make modules_install. i compiled after doing a make oldconfig with my 2.4.20 .config. i recompiled with ntfs built in as opposed to a module and now everything works fine. so now i'm wondering: how come ntfs support couldn't be built as a module?
unfortunately i don't know the exact error so i can't post it.... |

Did you forget to do 'make mrproper' or 'make dep'?
Sounds like somethinig old was hanging around in the source tree, that's all...

Was this ever resolved? Cleaning out the source tree doesn't cut it for me. |

I think it has something to do with using a 2.4 config with a 2.6 kernel. I have no problem with NTFS as a module in the 2.6 kernel. _________________ "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we, they never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." Peaceable, you are missing the point. We are talking about NTFS module in 2.4.22 kernel even when there is no 2.6 tree on the system. There are no problems in the 2. 4.20.
I also have error in crypto modules
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22-gentoo-test-r1/kernel/crypto/autoload.o
depmod: crypto_alg_lookup
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22-gentoo-test-r1/kernel/crypto/proc.o
depmod: crypto_alg_sem
depmod: crypto_alg_list
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22-gentoo-test-r1/kernel/fs/ntfs/ntfs.o
depmod: end_buffer_io_sync

This might help:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31640
------- Additional Comment #1 From SpanKY 2003-10-20 22:54 PST -------
if you built your kernel, booted it, and then later tried making ntfs into
a kern module, you'll probably hit this ...
rebuild your kernel after adding ntfs module support and then boot that version
and see if the problems go away ... |
