Frequently Asked Questions forum:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewforum-f-40.html
"Sorry, but only moderators can post topics in this forum."
The FAQ forum has many sticky-ed forum posts. As I am new to Gentoo, I dutifully checked them.
E.g. "GF: Gentoo Fundamentals" https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-30565.html (2003 post)
links to:
"GF3: How do I get a list of installed packages?" https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=30608 (2003 post)
It has hopelessly outdated information. I tried to post a follow up but:
" Sorry, but only moderators can reply to posts in this forum."
Anyway, it says:
Quote: |
Qpkg is deprecated in favour of equery, which is also included in app-portage/gentoolkit. The equivalent of qpkg -I -v is
Code:
equery list |
However:
# equery list
!!! Default action for this module has changed in Gentoolkit 0.3.
!!! Use globbing to simulate the old behavior (see man equery).
!!! Use '*' to check all installed packages.
!!! Use 'foo-bar/*' to filter by category.
Why not do away with those 12 year old posts but simply link to the appropriate pages in the wiki:

With good reason: it is meant to house reference matter, not discussions. While there is some cleanup to be done there, turning it into a free for all could well be curing the ailment by burying the patient.
Updates are coming, but the FAQs will not be done away with anytime soon.
Moved from Documentation, Tips & Tricks to Gentoo Forums Feedback, as the former is for documentation itself and the
latter is for precisely what it says it is. |
