So my regular user is a member of the cdrom group, which owns /dev/sr0 (my usb dvdrw drive). However, when I use either xine or mplayer[/mpv], I get an error about being unable to open the device unless I'm running them as root. VLC, as it has always done, cannot play dvds (or mpg files of any kind) without significant lag, so I'm stuck with xine.
Console says:
Code: | $ xine
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.9.
(c) 2000-2014 The xine Team.
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 5.0.3
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/sr0 with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/sr0 for reading
libdvdnav: vm: failed to open/read the DVD
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 5.0.3
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/sr0 with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/sr0 for reading
libdvdnav: vm: failed to open/read the DVD |
Is there any reason why a member of the owning group still wouldn't be able to use the device? Permissions are 770.
Cheers,
