Not sure exactly where to post this, so I decided to start here.
I use pulseaudio because it solves an issue I was having with vlc.
I also remote into my desktop frequently using vnc. For a long time, there were many issues with kde4 and vnc, so I've gotten used to not using kde4 over vnc. Instead, I use xfce4.
When I start vnc on my desktop, xfce starts pulseaudio, which kills the pulseaudio instance that was running on the local desktop started by kde4. When I come back home to my desktop, sound doesn't work because pulseaudio isn't running. kmix is tied to the old pulseaudio instance, and things I left running (mostly minecraft at the moment) have no sound. This means I have to start pulseaudio again, and generally restart any applications that were attached to the old pulseaudio instance.
Any suggestions on how to keep the local desktop copy of pulseaudio running? Can I tell xfce4 not to start pulseaudio? Can I have a system pulseaudio running and never start user daemons? Is there another better/different option?
Thank. _________________ CODEpendent blog - http://jdrrant.blogspot.com/ |
