After installing ALSA and rebooting, I get a ton of errors when the modules try to load. I'm at work now so I don't have the exact error message but it basically fails trying to make a bunch of symbolic links in directories that are supposed to be generated on the fly during the boot process in /var/lib/init.d but are no longer being generated ("started" I know is the name of one of these directories, there are 4 or 5 more). Does anyone know what causes this or how to fix it? I really don't relish the idea of having to start from scratch. |

csheppar,
dmesg | more should allow you to look at the messages that scroll by too quickly during bootup.

Thanks. Ya, I did that but the only messages are the ones about not being able to make link files in the generated directories that are supposed be in /var/lib/init.d. The reason of course is that those directories that are supposed to be generated aren't being generated. So, the real question is why aren't those directories being generated when they're supposed to be? They used to get generated before I started messing with ALSA.
Thanks though. |

csheppar,
I do not know, alsa worked for me second time (a typo killed the first time), however tomorrow is gentoo-bug day see this link for details https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=101582, you might bring it up there, and someone might be able to help.
