I'm trying to use the text tool in gimp but whenever I select a font to use gimp just tells me it can't find the font. Even though the font is appearing in the gimp font list. I've tried many different fonts and sizes, tried turning anti aliasing on and off, nothing seems to work. gimp version is 1.2.5. I've not had any font problems with other programs such as Open Office.
I have the X font server running and my XF86Config font section looks like this:
