|
|
NT..... What I'm trying to do is connect my Wireless Linksys router to my Lan Linksys router so that I can pick up some extra ports for more computers, plus try to keep my Lan "Winentindo" systems on the Lan router. What do I need to do to get the Wireless router to go through the lan router to connect to the internet?
Thanks in advance,
Kevin |

you'll have to do a few things to keep the networks from conflicting.
Let's assume the is the LAN router setup.
public IP: 64.x.x.34/32
gateway :64.x.x.33
private IP: 192.168.1.1/24
DHCP range: 192.168.1.100-255
NAT: on
The best way to setup the wireless router is
public ip: 192.168.1.2/24
gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP range: 192.168.1.80-99
NAT: off
The default DHCP range starts at .100 for Linksys routers so you'll need to change thon the wireless router. You only need the single IP on the wireless router and it needs to have the gateway on the LAN router.

NAT is Network Address Translation, which is how your router makes all of the computers on your lan appear as 1 on the internet (i.e. only 1 external ip address). Your linksys router will probably do this automatically.
Is your "wireless router" really a router or is it just an access point e.g. linksys WAP11 ?
If it's just an access point then you should just be able to plug it into the wired lan router and it should just work.
