Hello,

I'm trying to get my drive to read a Blu-Ray disc for the first time since I purchased it. I believe it's supposed to be able to read Blu-Ray discs but when I try and mount them I get this:
Quote:
# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom/
mount: no medium found on /dev/sr0
However, the computer writes and reads DVDs just fine. I do it all of the time. Is it possible that just the Blu-Ray reading feature is busted or that my drive can't read Blu-Ray discs and how can I test that?

Hi.

First of all check the datasheet / specification of your optical drive regarding supported medium.

Than you need to check which software is required to set up blueray on linux. I never had such hardware but I assume its like with any hardware.
Kernel (or kernel modules) + userspace tools. Usually with the userspace tools in question you see which kernel settings you need for that.

AFAIK k3b can burn blueray discs.. Playback of commercial discs is another issue, however. FYI, it uses cdrecord to burn the discs, so that command-line tool can be used by itself to burn blu-ray discs that you master yourself.

Looks like my drive doesn't support it after all. Dropped the ball on that one. Time to get an external.
