I was following the fbsplash wiki located at: "https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Fbsplash"
The wiki mentioned placing the following use flags in the /etc/portage/package.use file. When I went to do so, I discovered that my /etc/portage/package.use is a directory. Further research led me to the manual page detailing that /etc/portage/package.use can either be a file or directory.
My question surrounds the file naming convention for /etc/portage/package.use directory, what does the file have to be named so emerge can find the use flags to be used in this specific build for fbsplash? |

pick anything you like, how about /etc/portage/package.use/fbsplash.use?
if you want to keep it all in one file but have some things that require a directory... you could just go for package.use/package.use
the .use in the filename is entirely optional... |
