I just did a system upgrade, both with and without the pulseaudio USE flag, and timidity is not responding to system midi events.
How do I fix it?
I can link to pastebins of config files if needed, but I'm not sure what is needed to diagnose this. I've also tried re-emerging timidity and nothing worked. |

did you checked alsamixer ? sometimes the channels get muted and is easily overseen.
also check the diffrent devices in alsamixer ...
I suppose you use a rather stable kernel right? |

Kernel version is sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-4.0.5::gentoo
USE="-build -deblob -experimental -symlink" ABI_X86="64"
I checked alsamixer and everything's unmuted. I can still hear regular sound just fine too (youtube, vlc, etc)
I used the playmidi command on a midi file, nothing happened. RPGMaker 2000 running under wine also doesn't play any music.
I checked the fds for timidity...it appears to have /dev/snd/seq opened, but not /dev/sequencer. Is this something interesting?
Code: |
shentino@metalhead 2 ~ $ aconnect -o
client 128: 'TiMidity' [type=user]
0 'TiMidity port 0 '
1 'TiMidity port 1 '
2 'TiMidity port 2 '
3 'TiMidity port 3 '
|
Code: |
aplaymidi -p128:0 Trial.mid
|
aplaymidi, the timidity daemon, and pulseaudio are all running on the CPU and using CPU time, but nothing's coming out.
[/code]
I also ran timidity by itself on a midi file, and that DID work. |

you may lack some kernel modules / build in stuff for that to work...
Please verify if you have all kernel requirements meet for your use case. |

What kernel options should I use exactly?
I enabled SND_VIRMIDI, and not only didn't it work, but it also killed my normal PCM sound. |

In the short term, nuking pulseaudio fixed everything. |
