In order to VPN into work, I go to a URL that loads a java executable of some sort. As it's doing this, some confusing errors get thrown to the console which indicate to me that my java environment requires some sort of cleanup.
Code: |
console.error:
[CustomizableUI]
Custom widget with id loop-button does not return a valid node

Your custom jre (/lib/rt.jar check) /etc/java-config-2/current-icedtea-web-vm is not valid. Please fix deployment.jre.dir in your deployment.properties. In attempt to run using default one.
java version "1.6.0_36"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.13.8) (Gentoo package icedtea-6.1.13.8)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)

According to eselect, I'm using oracle-jdk-bin 1.7 as my system and user jvm. I don't know why it thinks I'm using IcedTea6 anymore.
Code: |
dost(0)$ eselect java-vm list
Available Java Virtual Machines:
[1] icedtea-bin-6
[2] icedtea-bin-7
[3] oracle-jdk-bin-1.7 system-vm user-vm
[4] oracle-jdk-bin-1.8
[5] sun-jdk-1.6

Anyone know what I need to do to clean things up and get rid of the error?
Thanks! |

which browser are you using? In firefox Java plugin is indicated by
Code: | # eselect java-nsplugin list |
Not to get into your business, but what kind ov VPN are you using? |

That did it. I set java-nsplugin to oracle jdk 1.8 and now everything is happy. I didn't realize that the plugin and jvm were configured separately.
The VPN software is Check Point Software Technologies LTD SSL Network Extender. Our Infosec group provides official solutions for Windows and Mac, but they allow everyone else to try and use this portal. It worked fine with java 1.6 until a short while ago, and then stopped working, but the error messages were totally misleading. I upgraded to 1.7 last week for another reason and then discovered that my VPN worked again.
Thanks so much for your help! |
