This has been mentioned before in this thread, but wasn't really addresses, AFAIK.

Basically, when using pine from portage, pico (the message editor) often behaves weird and acts like it's drunk. Characters typed in succession will be switched or the last two characters will be inserted before the first or just weird crap like that.

Apparently when manually compiling the source this doesn't happen. It is just in the emerge that it happens. Anyone else notice this? Perhaps this should be in bugs forum. Meh.

Alright no takers so far. I have serendipitously (sp?) come across a 100% way to recreate one of the symptoms:

1. Compose a message
2. In the body, type the word 'test', then hit Enter/Return 4 times or so.
3. Hit Backspace once.

When I hit the backspace key, I expect it to simply remove one of the newlines that was created. Instead, it deletes the last 't' in 'test' and leaves the cursor over the 's', leaving the newlines after it.

Am I the only pine user in the forum community? Has this been solved elsewhere and I'm just dense?

This has been bugging me too. We should file a bug report.

It appears that there is. I probably should have looked earlier.

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3719

I'll add to the bug thread and hopefully a resolution is made.

The bug poster noted that the bug is caused by the multi-byte patch and commenting out this line in the ebuild will fix the problem for now:
Code:
patch -d ${S} -p1 < ${FILESDIR}/pine-4.44-multibyte.patch

Thanks... that fixed my problem. I thought pine had lost it for a moment.

This still seems to be a problem. It seems like the bug that's there says the multibyte patch is going to be removed, but it's still in my ebuild. It's not in the "resolved" state.

What's the holdup? :?:

Not sure why.

Just comment out the line in the ebuild for now and emerge.

I usually only have this problem when I back up to edit the middle of my email. I have solved this problem by becoming perfect the first time. :) No, seriously, I'd like to see this fixed.

Well the fix is there. Just comment and emerge. You only need to emerge once. I did and have been golden since.

You'll have to post in the bug thread to push for a cvs check-in. This isn't the place to do it.
