When I turn off the display and then back on again, it no longer receives any signal.
I believe this happens because the display in question is a TV and not a normal monitor. When turning the TV off, xrandr doesn't see it at all any longer. So no signal is being sent to it. When the TV turns on again, xrandr can see it, but there is no signal sent to it as the system doesn't recognize that it has returned.
Is there some way I can configure X so that it will re-enable the display once it turns on again? |

well it is all about how you connected that external display.

You need to write a rule / a script / or find a way to tell the x-server to use that display again.
probably you just need some display section in a hand written xorg.config.
assuming it is a laptop, why do not you, use the special keys to send the video signal to the external port again?
Usually, the nvidia-drivers => nvidia-settings can do that too. so the other gpu drivers should be able to also. |
