I've been reading the forums for a while, and I can't seem to solve this. I followed the directions for installing the artwiz fonts at:

http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/artwiz-aleczapka/README

which state:

Quote:
cd your_font_dir
tar xvjf artwiz-aleczapka.tar.bz2
cd artwiz-aleczapka
fc-cache -fv ./

Add this path to your /etc/X11/XF86Config config
FontPath "your_font_dir/artwiz-aleczapka"

and fontconfig config file (eg. /etc/fonts/local.conf)
<dir>your_font_dir/artwiz-aleczapka</dir>

restart X

After a restart, I can type

Code:
 # fc-list | grep anorexia
anorexia:style=Regular

So fc-list thinks that artwiz is installed. However, when I try to use the font in aterm under fluxbox I get:

Code:
$ aterm -fn anorexia
aterm: can't load font "anorexia"

Also, if I run xfontsel, I cannot see any of the artwiz fonts listed.

However, if I run gnome-font-properties, I see all the artwiz fonts listed. I'm not sure what to try next. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks,

Chuck

Neither aterm nor xfontsel do support the new fontconfig/freetype style approach to fonts. Use 'xterm -fa anorexia' for the terminal and stay with fc-list to explore your freetype fonts ...

Thanks. I was beating my head trying to figure that out. One wierd thing is happening though. This works perfectly:

Code:
xterm -fa 'smoothansi' -fg gray -bg black -ls

but this give a segmentation fault:

Code:
xterm -fa 'anorexia' -fg gray -bg black -ls

Both are artwiz fonts, so I'm not sure why one would work and one would not. Another wierd message shows if I get when I run either of the above commands:

Code:
Xlib:  extension "RENDER" missing on display "localhost.localdomain:1.0"

But it doesn't seem to affect it since the smoothansi still works. Anyone seen that before? Thanks again for your help.

So apparently it will work under aterm. When I try I get:

Code:
$ aterm -fn anorexia
aterm: can't load font "anorexia"

Yet I can see the other artwiz fonts under xterm. I'm sure I've set something up wrong, I jsut can't figure it out.

If/when you do figure it out - please post your solution here. I'd love to know why I have the exact same problem...

hi again.
i have no problem loading that font on whatever terminal (rxvt , aterm , xterm, eterm )

the way i installed the fonts was :

mkdir .fonts
put all the fonts i want to install inside that dir.
then i ran mkfontdir
added the path ( "/home/ikaro/.fonts" ) to /etc/X11/XF86Config
Code:

 FontPath   "/home/ikaro/.fonts/"

restarted X

My fonts.dir
Code:

18

Everything I have matches that, except this I do not have a fonts.scale file. How does that get generated?

i think fonts.scaled is only usefull for fonts wthat can be scaled, anorexia and the artwiz collection can't.
so i dont think it matters.

*edit*

ive used google and found this nice tread :
http://linuxquestions.org/questions/history/98546

hope that helps.
