Ok, I don't know the first thing about networking. I use Verizon DSL and use a Linksys router and have a built in NIC that's not an NForce. Well, I installed Gentoo, get a prompt. I was able to
Code:
emerge xfree
And left for a few hours. When I came home, I got on and typed
Code:
emerge -k kde

It said

Code:
Calculating Dependencies

20 seconds later
Code:
List of Hosts
Aborted, no host found

I typed
Code:
ping www.yahoo.com

and various other forms like http://www.yahoo.com and other websites. and I get this message.
Code:
Unknown Host

How do I set up my network? I'm in a Windows Network under MSHOME for P2P file sharing and TCP/IP across the network and don't have a domain or anything like that. Can anyone help?

 I appreciate it.

Provided that you've correctly configured gentoo for your NIC then you just have to add the following line to /etc/resolv.conf
Code:
nameserver 1.2.3.4

replace 1.2.3.4 with the ip address of your router
