hi

For some reason, my DVD drive, which was working fine a few weeks ago, is now not detected.

The drive opens when I press the eject button, and the indicator light flashes when I insert a disk, but KDE does not detect it, and it appears to be missing from /dev ... there's no /dev/sr , only /dev/sg ... and no /dev/cdrom either.

I have checked that the cables look correctly plugged in.

If this is a software issue, where should I look?

/dev/sg0 /dev/sda
/dev/sg1 /dev/sdb
/dev/sg2 /dev/sdc

If nothings changed in gentoo / the software side of it, then its either a connection issue or a dead drive.

Try a different sata port, and or a different cable. If its still a no go try tossing the drive in a different computer and see what happens.
