Hello all,
I decided to install Gentoo on an old netbook, after the previous Arch system got too bloated ... anyway, all is well; I finished the install part of the Handbook, unmasked ~, upgraded everything, switched to -pf kernel and I am currently running "emerge -e @world" to get a fast, stable base before proceeding to install X, openbox et al.
Despite running -pf kernel, I think my kernel configuration is pretty sane (I can post the .config if necessary), except some strange dmesg errors are displayed if I insert an USB stick or boot with one inserted:
[...] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page found
[...] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
Is this normal? It gets logged under the error (err) level. I am afraid to mount the USB drive until you guys assure me this is normal or tell me if I mucked something up while configuring the kernel.
Thanks a lot!
-S
EDIT:
I decided to wgetpaste some files you might be interested:
http://tinyurl.com/zefs855 dmesg-errors.txt
http://tinyurl.com/hp9rfxw current-makeconf.txt
http://tinyurl.com/hpqz3fl current-kconfig.txt
N.B. systemd and BTRFS errors can be safely disregarded as they are apparently unresolved bugs in kernel/btrfs. |

skgucek,
Code: | [...] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page found
[...] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through | is normal.
The messages are informational, not errors. _________________ Regards,

Well, thank you for your reply. Still, it's interesting that they get logged under level "err" and can be displayed with "dmesg -l err" ... |
