What was the first kernel you ran on your current machine

My desktop is growing a little long in the tooth. In cleaning up old kernel modules I saw that my kernel modules from my migration to 64bit is still present. The first kernels were thus even older. The oldest kernel modules dir on my current machine is 2.6.25-r7. Which kernel was the first for your system?

Haha...I almost hate to admit that I'm still nursing an astonishingly old x86 machine here. Interestingly I still had the stage1-x86-2005.0.tar.bz2 tarball and the portage-20050801.tar.bz2 in /, so I can verify for sure that I started out with gentoo-sources-2.4.28.

I do extensive LAMP development on this machine with no problems, and boot up (with OpenRC) inside of about a half a minute. Really shows you just how bloated other operating systems are getting.

EDIT: I saw 14% for "2.4.0 or older-2.4.37" and was surprised it was that high until I realized that 14% was me...haha. I might end up with the record here.

Well, I only installed gentoo on my current machine three or four days ago, so 4.1.15. -_-

I used gentoo back in the early 2000's (at least judging by my old posts.. I don't have that great a memory to remember 10+ years ago), and decided to come back a few days ago. I installed Linux on my laptop this past Tuesday. Next decision to make is whether or not I want to replace Windows on my desktop too.

Current desktop/laptop are 6 years old, so without looking up release dates I'd guess 2.6.2x. I remember the laptop not initially having rt2800pci for a few months...

Last time I refreshed mobo/cpu/ram on the desktop machine was in late 2013.
That was before the 4.x release so it will have been in the 3.10-3.19 bracket.
Oldest kernel image for the desktop I still keep on boot partition is 3.18.14 .

I plugged in 2.6.11 and later because my main box has had its root drive transferred or cloned from one box to another over the last 10 years or more. The chain got broken once, but that was a long time ago. I don't even remember if I started playing with gentoo while 2.4.x was still the main kernel or not. I started with ydrigsil way back when and then got into redhat (pre-rhel) and mandrake for work until switching to gentoo around 2002 or 3.

I assume I started out with gentoo-sources, and genlop has a record of 2.6.23 for that.

"Your current machine" is a quite ambiguous term, when you change parts of it over many years. I've still got files in my /home dating from 1989, when I bought my first PC, a 12 MHz AT clone with a 20 MB HDD and MS-DOS 3.3. The ghost in that machine somehow still lingers on in my present configuration.

I didn't think of genlop until I saw arnvidr's reply. My current disk stack (2*1 TB in RAID-1 for system, 4*2 TB in RAID-5 for /home) is from 2012, when I rebuilt the system from scratch:
