Ok, first things first this is my first ever expierence with linux
and ive never installed any linux anywhere before but i think im doing pretty
well with everything except that during the lilo part
i change to /sbin/lilo
and i get fatal
first secotof of /dev/hda1 doesnt have a valid boot signature
so i configured my lilo as setup in installation instructions
and the image part looks like this
image=/boot/kernel-2.4.20-gentoo-r5
root=/dev/hda3
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.20-gentoo-r5
label=gk_linux
append="root=/dev/hda3 init=/linuxrx"
ive followed the installation instructions more or less word for word and well im kinda at a loss because well i dont know really how to make my hda1 to have a boot signature
in cfdisk it has a boot * on it
so im at a loss as to what i need to do
I mounted everything just like the guide said
and i chrooted im guessing properly
and i did a stage3 tarball install
yes i know there is a 2.6 kernel out and well im hoping that the 2.4 is good for me right now if there is anything else i can do then please help

You probably want to change boot=/dev/hda1 to boot=/dev/hda in /etc/lilo.conf so LILO gets installed in the MBR. |

Its taken me about 10 days to get to this step first I was having LOTS of issues with the chroot...
apprently an AMD is not an i686 machine.... and thats the version i had installed also was having issues with the network... apprently i have that all fixed now being that i was able to down load the x86 and get that installed.
I'm not sure what else i need to do but well ive read and searched and read and searched and im commin up blank... _________________ hey, i dont know what the heck im doing with this linux stuff... care to help? |
