|
|
im having trouble getting gnome to start. i can start X and KDE fine, but when i try and start gnome i see the nvidia logo flash on the screen (like normal) then im dumped back at the console with the output from startx showing only:
Code: | Using vt 7
(II) [GLX]: Initialising GLX extention
waiting for X server to shut down |
I've tried going back to the plain old nv driver to see if it was somehow related to the nvidia drivers but that doesnt help either, output:
Code: | Using vt 7
(EE) [GLX]: failed to add GLX extention (NVIDIA XFree86 driver not found)
waiting for X server to shut down |
I've tryed re-emerging the nvidia glx package and that hasnt helped so i think it must be a problem with a gnome setting. any ideas?

Is Load "glx" uncommented in your XF86Config? Make sure it is _________________ If rubbin cold dirt in your crotch is wrong - I don't wanna be right! |

no, i havent tried gdm, mainly because i dont want a graphic login, im quite happy to start in the console and start X when i intend to use it.
the glx lines are definately uncommented in the config files, i get KDE and fluxbox loaded up fine with gl acceleration working nicely

i found the problem. revdep-rebuild found me a zillion things depending on libssl.so.0.9.7 (which I reverted back to 0.9.6) one of which was gnome. after all the screwed up dependancies were fixed gnome works great again |
