|
|
My boss has a Dell Latitude laptop which he connects to an external, wall-mounted monitor at his office desk. He has the laptop below and to the right of the monitor, and uses the kscreen utility to mimic this in KDE so the mouse goes between monitors as it should. The problem however, is that the external monitor becomes 0,0 and when he shuts down and goes somewhere, he cannot get his laptop monitor to work because the upper-left is not 0,0, making it impossible to use. The only fix is to login as root and delete .local/share/kscreen. Is it a bug to not be able to position a monitor above and to the left of the laptop screen and have the laptop function when the monitor is not present? _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

First thing I'd do with such a setup is upgrading to Plasma-5.6.5. |

I will have to see what he is running. Is 5.6.5 stable? _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

Well that is more proof that KDE5 is not stable yet. This worked in KDE4 for over a year. I'm not bashing 5, just peeved at the push to it. I do like a lot about 5, but I also miss a lot from 3 and 4. I am contemplating giving Gnome a shot. I hear it is now more customizable than KDE. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

More customizeable? That's a myth. |

Just what I have been reading. I know KDE3 seemed more customizable to me than 4, but 4 had those stupid activities. I haven't touched Gnome since 1 or 2, eons ago. My quarrel with Gnome is systemd. I have heard K developers talking about integrating systemd now though. If that happens, we ditch Linux and move back to Windows 7. That's another debate though!
I did update the laptop to the latest software yesterday. We'll soon know if the problem persists. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |

I can't make sense of your first paragraph, but if your problem persists, there *might* be a fix available in 5.7 that is 100% backportable to 5.6.

EDIT: ...and it just got added by a kscreen-5.6.5 revbump. |
