Help
I am working through the desktop install instructions, and trying to install 'postfix' and emerge reports that it is blocking "net-mail/ssmpt".
I've checked and can't install sendmail either (for the same reason).
Clearly I've done something to mess up the process - but what? How do I find out what has caused Gentoo to block net-mail/ssmpt? What do I do to either correct or work around this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help

The blocking package, "net-mail/ssmpt", is installed by some programs (cron daemons I think) to provide basic mail delivery, or something.
What I did is:
# emerge -C ssmpt
to delete the offending application, then
# emerge -p postfix
"-p" to double-check dependencies and anything else that may cause problems
Then
# emerge postfix
10mins-8 hours later, you're all done! |
